- Todd.Cordell

Best possible return is that we will now be looking towards the FUTURE and not the past and we ditch all the drama and likely avoid any problem with Cory resigning. Plus 2 second round picks might get you 1 first round pick so any addition picks can be packaged for something nicer. That is the nice thing about assets and getting assets back for players ( something NJ Devils fans know little about ) since we just keep any possible players that could get us assets till they retire it will be nice for a change to not watch something get subtracted from the equation with out adding another piece! To the future boys!

Where do you think we could draft if they traded two second rounders? Is 15th a stretch?

As much as I hate Brodeur (only partially due to his hockey career), he should retire as a Devil. I thought the same thing when there were reports in the early 2000s that Mario Lemieux may play for the Flyers; he's a Penguin. Brodeur should never don any other jersey than a Devils one.

I am not sure I think that would be great but I don't know how gms feel about this draft. Todd might know better being an OHL scout on how deep this draft is but I think the common believe is it is like most drafts in that the top five are solid and then it's a crap shoot after that. I think I would be pretty happy to have the 15th overall pick in the draft and that would also give us like 1% or less to win the lottery haha we can dream right ?

St. Louis has 2 second rounders and 2 4th rounders this year. They could use a more experienced goaltender for the playoffs. I think sending Brodeur for a 2nd and a 4th is reasonable.

I think your all drinking heavily if you think we can get a 2nd rd or even a 3rd pick for Marty. Who is that desperate for a goalie? Maybe the Blues aren't satisfied with Elliot and Halak? Could see them overpaying for him. Most teams do not need goalies and if they do it's more so for the future and not a playoff run.

I would be pretty excited about that. I wouldn't mid testing the waters on Brunner see what teams would be willing to offer for him. He has a reasonable contract with 1 more year left and I don't know if he is that great of a fit in NJ seems like he would do better on a team with more skill guys then 3rd liners

Devils will be lucky to get a 4th round pick for him. He is one of the greatest ever, but nowhere near his top form. Throw in his contract, and the fact that a team will be looking to him in a back-up role, his value isn't high. A fourth or a lower tier prospect is all you can hope for.

Yup, plus if the Blues are going to make a deal for a goalie, it will most likely be for Miller who is clearly better than Brodeur at this point. Maybe Washington would have interest in him, but I doubt anyone offers much more than a 4th for a 41 year old goalie with a sub .900 Sv%

Pretty sure we can eat half of his salary. Guys get way more then they should at every deadline. I wouldn't say you are wrong but I also wouldn't say you are right. Anything can happen and the tiny bit of faith I have in Lou tells me that if anyone would could sell Marty for more then he is worth it would be him.

It depends on what St. Louis is looking for, if they are looking for a goalie at all. Ryan Miller would replace Halak and Elliott all together and become the starter, and the Blues would have to pay a lot more to get him than Brodeur. If they are looking for more experience behind those goalies, then Brodeur comes into play. It would be awesome if the Devils could get someone like Ty Rattie from them, considering they don't have many natural right wings in the system as well

So Lou held on to Clarkson, Martin, Parise and all these other guys who could of gotten a way better return, didn't mean as much to the franchise, and where all but guaranteed to leave. But you have faith he could sell Marty for more than he is worth? I'm not saying your wrong but what your suggesting here is highly highly unlikely. Maybe if we lose 3 -4 here to start after the break will start selling even than I feel like this guy will just keep the status quo and try and compete.

There is a few of them it seems this year. I heard that Pepin guy had been dropping in the draft rankings but he seems like a lazy player. I would lose my mind if we got that Vrana guy but I think he will likely go in the top ten maybe top 5? He is a Czech so I am sure if he fell to us Lou would take him in a heartbeat.

No you are right BUT if any GM COULD do it I think it would be Lou But 99% of the time it is status quo like you said

Not for goalies. If you look at past goalie trades, young goalies got decent returns. Varlamov got a 1st and a 2nd. Bob got a 2nd and 2 fourths. Anytime you've seen a veteran goalie going in a back-up role, it was a late pick. He is not a starter anymore, and i just don't see a team giving up anymore then a 4th.

This is the only team that could make some sense to trade with. But both Halak/Elliot are UFA's they need a long term solution more so than they need a goalie for a playoff run. I would think Miller would be on there radar first but he's also a UFA so maybe they don't want to risk the overpayment for Miller just to have him leave. If that's there thinking than they probably will inquire about Marty. Still if I'm St.Louis im trying hard to get Miller and resigning him.

Yea but Bob was a totally different Bob when he got traded then he is now. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if he got a second or a third but I also wouldn't be shocked if he didn't get anything. I know for a fact Lou won't trade Marty if the return is only a 4th so he will finish the year here and sign somewhere else in the off season.
